Artisans across America: Mad about yellow
Yellow is the only color that can drown out the winter blues.
When yellow daffodils first appear during early spring in Oklahoma, the blooms seem so bold because they are amid the grays and browns of the grasses and trees still in winter hibernation.
When I have my first daffodil sighting of March, it’s exciting because I know what’s next: a rainbow perfected by the change of season. All that wet winter weather will prove its worth through hydrated, lush green leaves, a smattering of Bluebonnets, blood-red Tiger Lilies… and rosy Crape Myrtle. Oh, the Crape Myrtle – it honestly makes my heart go pitter-pat.
But it all starts with the daffodils. It all begins with a little yellow.

When browsing Etsy for various handcrafted items in yellow, I was struck by these fine art photographs by Monko Photography. They truly epitomize spring to me. This particular listing is for four 5×5 prints ($55). You can browse the studio’s prints here, and you can even request different sizes. Trust me, there are a lot more where this came from.

Spring: It all starts with the daffodils. It all begins with a little yellow.
Daffodils
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
